Paul was undertaking a full renovation of an outdated 1980s bungalow, transforming it into a modern, open-plan home. As part of the refurbishment, he planned to remove internal walls to create a spacious kitchen and living area ideal for entertaining and family gatherings.
Having downsized from a large four-bedroom Victorian home, Paul wanted the new space to feel contemporary yet characterful, blending modern design with traditional craftsmanship. A dedicated drinks station and an area for socialising were key elements of the brief.
We designed the layout to maximise both functionality and flow. The sink, dishwasher, and integrated bin were positioned along the back wall for efficiency, alongside a tall larder unit for ample food storage.
At the heart of the design, a large central island with a hob positioned in the centre created the perfect space for cooking and entertaining, allowing clear sightlines into the rest of the open-plan area.
On the adjacent wall, we introduced a dedicated drinks zone, complete with a built-in coffee machine and wine cooler, providing a separate area for guests away from the main cooking space.
A Solid Ash Shaker door painted in Graphite paired with matte black handles established a bold, timeless aesthetic. The crisp white quartz worktop and matching splashback offered a clean contrast, achieving a modern-industrial feel while retaining warmth and texture through the natural woodgrain finish.
